Soulful, charming, charismatic, beautiful, elegant are all words that aptly describe this unassuming vocalist from North London, England. A 2010 Live and Unsigned Regional and Area Finalist, Angie is a natural singer/ songwriter/entertainer. The first single release from her E.P was well received during the Live and Unsigned competition and continues to get a postive response whenever Angie performs it live; Angie says " This competition followed my exciting Britains Got Talent 09 stint and was more the direction I need to go in, since it's all about originality. It allowed me to test out my song Free [ She Wanna Be Free] and I was blessed to win the Exposure Award [please see the press cuttings], which helped me pay for my E.P
single to get mastered".
Angie A has enjoyed a No.1 national chart success as Backing Vocalist with 'Olive'- they got to number 1 with the track 'You're Not Alone' and through this Angie has appeared on televison shows such as Top Of The Pop, The Big Breakfast, GMTV, This Morning etc and toured England and other parts of Europe.
Angie has also shared her skills by running community based Soulful- Singing- Workshops; Angie says " I like teaching and sharing my skills with kids, youth and adults and I have surprised myself as to how much I enjoy this.It all started with my concern about youth gun and knife crime, so I took up some training at Goldsmiths University and built things up from there. Angie has also completed a PTLLS teacher training course, a Mentoring course via MusicLeader.com and is a Bronze Arts Award Advisor.Angie drew on her experience from previously taking part in ITV's Britain Sings Xmas choir with Carrie and David Grant; Here's a photo of Angie directing her Soulful-Adult- Singing-Group [Ruislip/ harrow branch ] ! Also please check out the photo of some of the North/South London branch members on the next page....The Soulful- Adult-Singing-Group ran from December 2009- December 2012 ]. Angie will now do one off workshops as part of her fundraising efforts for her chosen charities/RTJ project.
Angie enjoys motivating and inspiring others and finds that her experiences as an active Artist in the music industry gives an added bonus to the learning of participants attending her workshops; " I've found that the fact I took part in Britains Got talent 09 further inspires those I am teaching" says Angie. Angie took part in Britains Got talent to 'test' herself; She says " I wanted to see if I would crumble or not". It so happened to be a wonderful experience where she did'nt get buzzed out and got a positive audience reaction, getting to the TV 'reveal' part of the show- but not before Simon Cowell said Angie should "drop the silly stage name..."; Angie says " It was interesting Simon saying that- my stage name was 'Anjelai'- which was cool for a time, but I actually agreed with him on this- he said " ...just be yourself-Angie- and the other judges agreed ".
For quite some time Angie A has been performing her show also, a self-contained tribute to the great soul, jazz, swing, RnB and reggae artist of the past and present. Her personality and wonderfully expressive voice have enabled her to capture the magic and sentiment of such artists like Nina Simone, Dina Washington, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Marvin Gaye, Amy Winehouse, Ella Fitzgerald and many more. However, for the more discerning listener, Angie has developed an even more sophisticated show, one which also satisfies her passion for singing the light jazz and swing classics of the 20's,30's,40's and 50's and which greatly suits her melodic distinctive voice. A joy to behold!
